ACUPUNCTURE FOR HOT FLASHES IN BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS

Acupunture as Good as Drug at Reducing Hot Flashes in Breast Cancer Survivors
Journal of Clinical Oncology; Sept 22, 2008

As reported in Medscape, a small clinical trial found acupuncture AS EFFECTIVE as
conventional drug therapy (using venlaxafine) in relieving vasomotor symptoms (hot
flashes) in breast cancer patients who were taking tamoxifen or anastrozole.
Acupuncture patients had no adverse side effects (there are significant side effects to
both drugs) AND acupuncture patients reported significant increases in well being.

As is usual in these studies, it is hard to choose control groups to verify the response
to treatment, but this study seemed to show COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS
      with NO SIDE EFFECTS.
