Osteoarthritis Patients Treated With Acupuncture
                              Show Improvement

Arthritis and Rheumatism - November 2006

This study was a large randomized trial of over 3000 patients.
Patients were treated for 15 sessions over 3 months and showed
significant improvement in the 'osteoarthritis index.  Improvement
was still persistent 6 months later at re-evaluation.

This study was not double blinded, but the results led the authors
to conclude that 'in patients with chronic pain due to OA of the
knee or hip who were receiving primary care, addition of
acupuncture to the treatment regimen resulted in a clinically
             relevant and persistent benefit'.
